While grassroots level Nepali Congress workers and supporters have been denouncing the partylessness and zamindaristic culture with no democratic spirit ruling the party structures since 1951, senior leader and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadru Deuba on Saturday told media that there is no theoretical debate within his party. He tried to assure his party workers and supporters through reporters that his party was quite united with no question for future leadership.
Mr. Deuba had organized a tea ceremony at his residence at an outskirt of the Kathmandu Metropolis. At the tea program were former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress party President Girija Prasad Koirala and other party leaders.
Many analysts believe this tea program to have been an indicator of Mr. Deuba’s effort to increase intra-party support for him to become the successor to Mr. Koirala, now 87.
However, other Nepali Congress leaders such as Sushil Koirala, Sujata Koirala, Ram Chandra Koirala and Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat also claim that they are the appropriate successors to Mr. Koirala.
