Sheridan & Murray Attorney Praises New Crib Standard Adoption

Philadelphia attorney Christopher Hinderliter advises parents to review new standards for child protection

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Philadelphia, PA – Local attorney Christopher D. Hinderliter of the law firm Sheridan & Murray commends the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) for adopting stronger standards for crib safety. The new standards took effect June 28 for manufacturers and retailers. Hotels, daycare centers, crib rental firms and similar companies have until December 28, 2012 to comply.

“I was pleased to see the CPSC take the initiative to push through these new safety requirements for cribs,” says Christopher D. Hinderliter, a personal injury litigation attorney with the law firm of Sheridan & Murray, LLC. “Infants and toddlers are some of the most vulnerable individuals in our society. It is important that regulators put rules in place to safeguard these young lives, and that parents and caregivers do everything in their power to ensure children’s safety.” Hinderliter states that the new regulations address five primary areas that should aide child protection efforts:

  1. Stop the manufacture and sale of dangerous drop-side cribs.
  2. Require stronger mattress supports.
  3. Require increased slat strength.
  4. Require more durable crib hardware.
  5. Make safety testing more rigorous.

Hinderliter practices personal injury law and is admitted to the Bar in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He is heavily involved in advocating on behalf of children as a Guardian Ad Litem. Interested individuals may learn more at the CPSC’s Crib Information Center here.
