Proddatur (GR-TYP-BIN): Shift all liquor shops to the outskirts of city to avoid the untoward incidents in the city, demanded leaders of CPI. They staged a strong protest by blindfolding the statue of Mahatama Gandhi with a black ribbon at Gandhi Road on July 4.
Emphasizing the permission for the liquor shop near the Statue of Gandhi, CPI City Secretary Porumamilla Subbarayudu alleged that the Excise Authorities acted against the regulations. He described the act as an insult to the father of nation and people. He said that it will lead to a law and order problem and create a social unrest among the people. Allowing the liquor shop at the main junction of hospitals and schools will expose girls, women and people to danger from tipplers, he added.
The leaders of CPI demanded that the government should straightaway shift all the liquor shops to the outskirts of city to show its social responsibility.
Leaders M Sreenivasulu, Narasimha, Sreenu, Dumpa Saraswathamma, Jayamma, AISF leaders Nagaraju, Balanarasimha and Siva participated.
