Jammu, January 04, (Scoop News)-Expressing deep grief and shock over the loss of life and property of common masses in recent firing on Indo-Pak border – the Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation a frontal organisation of J&K Gujjars today made an appeal to local administration to shift the nomadic Gujjars along with their livestock to safer areas temporarily who are living on the Border line.
We-the Gujjars and Bakkarwals are the main sufferer of border firing said Dr. Javaid Rahi , Secretary, Tribal Foundation while speaking in a meeting of TRCF on border firing . He said we live on rim of Indo-Pak Border so we become the first victims of Pak guns.
Every year dozens of Gujjars killed on border ,hundres injoured and thousands f people migrates every year to safer places during the firing he added.
The speakers said, since 1947, 1965 and 1971 , the Gujjars faced the major brunt of three wars between Indo-Pak, on Line of Control and International Border. He said that being the resident of borders, our Gujjars and Bakerwal community are facing border firing since lost 25 year of insurgency.
The Gujjars and Bakkarwals are the main tribal group of Jammu and Kashmir constitute 20% of total J&K population who occupies frontier areas on Indo-Pak Border in J&K. Government of Indian granted them Schedule Tribe status in 1991.
The speakers told said on extreme border right Poonch to Kathua in Jammu Division and from Uri to Gurze in Kashmir border the Gujjars are living in highest numbers.
The Gujjar community through TRCF made an appeal to State Governor Sh N N Vohara for a directive to local authorities to provide shelter and food to tribal Gujjars and arrange fodder for their livestock .
Speakers asked the member of the community to approach local administration for help.
