Director for gender and social development in Kakamega county Ben Makutsi said that in Kakamega county Sinyalu, Mumias and Lugari are lead zones for gender violence. He was speaking at Kakamega social hall during the celebration of 16days of activitism against gender violence. The celebration is been celebrated worldwide and sponsored by USAID and AIPHIAPLUS Western Kenya.
At Shinyalu the cause is drunkenness, in Mumias issues are related to Muslim religion culture while in the entire three zones being affected by employment and immorality among residents.
“Drug abuse, treating children unequally at home based on their gender and uneducated is the cause of such violence,” said Mwangi Victor Wilson, Kakamega County Commissioner representative at the event.
The director also announce that the county government have allocated 30 million to vulnerable groups but accused the public of not coming up with serious group to be funded.
Sectors represented at the ceremony were from social service, agriculture, health, education, police and NGOs.
The celebration started on 26TH November and will end on first week of December.
