Jammu,September 11 (Scoop News)- Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul, which began functioning in 2010, is a unique institution which aims to promote the Sanskrit language and preserve the Vedic Sanskriti.
Shri N. N. Vohra, Governor J&K, who is Chairman of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, took keen interest in the establishment of the Gurukul and, thereafter, in ensuring that it was affiliated to the leading Sanskrit University in the country, the Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi. In this context, the Governor had been pursuing this matter with the Vice Chancellor and the Chancellor of the Sanskrit University. Members of the Vaishno Devi Shrine Board are very happy to learn that the Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi, has granted affiliation to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul, as a special case.
Shri Navin K. Choudhary, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, stated that the Governor has written to personally thank the Vice Chancellor and the Chancellor, Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi, for granting recognition to the Gurukul, as a special case. He has also written to Chairman of the Governing Council of the Gurukul, Dr. S. S. Bloeria, and members of the Council, for their devoted endeavours to place the Gurukul on a sound footing. This institution, fully funded by the Shrine Board, provides education and training to selected youth and grooms them for preserving the traditional Vedic culture. It was stated that in the course of the next few years a sizeable group of trained scholars and practitioners would be available for discharging duties in the various institutions of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and for providing useful service in organisations located in the entire region.
The Gurukul is imparting education in Vedas, Karamkand and Pooja rituals. The selected students undergoing training at this institution are also taught English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Computer Sciences and Music.
The CEO informed that, after qualifying in the entrance examination and interview, 20 selected students of the first batch had been admitted to Class VI in the Gurukul, in July 2010. This year, a month ago, the third batch of 20 students was admitted, raising the total strength of this fully residential Gurukul to 60 students.
The CEO stated that while the Governor has been guiding and advising about the future growth and development of the Gurukul, the day to day functioning of this institution is closely watched by the Governing Council which is chaired by Dr. S. S. Bloeria, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu. The Council comprises eminent persons including Prof. Y. K. Mishra, former Vice Chancellor J. R. Rajasthan Sanskrit University, Jaipur; Prof. Vishwa Murti Shastri, former Principal Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, Jammu; CEO; Additional CEO and officers of the Shrine Board. It is to be recalled that in 2011 Prof Vishwa Murti Shastri received the President’s Award for his services towards the promotion of the Sanskrit language.
As per its mandate, the Gurukul has also been regularly organising Workshops for providing refresher training to the Pujaris from the entire region. This training, provided free of cost, aims to enable the Pujaris to improve their knowledge and understanding of the rituals and religious practices. The Gurukul has so far organised twelve such refresher courses and trained more than 100 Pujaris and Pandits from the various areas of the Jammu region.
The affiliation of the Gurukul to the Sampurnanand Sanskrit University up to the level of “Acharyas” (post-Graduate level) opens new vistas for the students who shall be graduating from this institution which has very highly qualified Acharyas (teachers), five of whom hold doctorates in their respective areas of learning.
While expressing high appreciation of the work done so far, the Governor has called upon the Governing Council and the Acharyas to develop the Gurukul with dedication so that its students receive education of the highest standards and this institution emerges as one of the leading Gurukuls in the country.
