Shrne Board to provide 5000 heavy quilts to flood hit people of Leh: Governor

 

 

Leh/Srinagar,August 27 (Scoop News) -The Governor,  N. N. Vohra, today in a meeting with the Chairman, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council and  T. Angchok, Deputy Commissioner, Leh, announced that the  Mata Vaishno Devi ne Board shall provide 5,000 heavy quilts for distribution among the needy flood-affected population of Leh district. The Governor made this gesture on the conclusion of his 3-day visit to Leh district.  

            The Governor, who is also the Chairman of  Mata Vaishno Devi ne Board, has asked  R. K. Goyal, Chief Executive Officer of the Board, who had accompanied him to Leh, to arrange the required supply of the quilts and their delivery at Leh district headquarters on a time bound basis, well before the onset of the ensuing winter season. The Chairman of the ne Board has authorized the CEO to provide urgent relief to the disaster affected families while incurring an expenditure of upto Rupees 50 lakh.

 

Earlier The Governor,  N. N. Vohra, undertook an extensive 8-hour visit of the flood hit interior areas of Phyang, Taru, Ney, Nimu and Bazgo of Leh district and had an on-the-spot appraisal of the loss of life and property and the relief and rehabilitation measures underway.

The Governor met the flood sufferers at all these places and heard from them about the losses they have suffered of their houses, livestock, agricultural and horticultural lands, irrigation kuhls, drinking water and power supply, roads and telecommunication links and other public utilities. They also submitted Memoranda to the Governor, which listed their rehabilitation demands.

At all the places visited by him, the Governor was briefed about the details of the losses suffered in these areas by  Chhering Dorje, Chief Executive Councillor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh,  Tsewang Tondup, Executive Councillor, Agriculture, LAHDC, Leh, Councillor,  Jigmet Namgyal, Chief Coordinator Relief,  Jigmet Takpa, SSP, Leh,  B. S. Tuti, Assistant Commissioner, Revenue, Leh, Ms. Tsewang Dolma and other officers of the District Administration. They also presented details of the relief and rehabilitation measures underway and the status of the restoration of the public utility services.

At Phyang, the Governor accompanied by his Principal Secretary,  R. K. Goyal, met the local people and the Lamas of the Phyang Monastery and enquired about the scale of flood damages, including fruit trees and standing crops. The Chief Executive Councillor and the officers of the District Administration briefed the Governor about the effort to be made for reclamation of the flood affected agricultural land and restoration of irrigation infrastructure and other utilities, besides the rehabilitation of the affected families at safer sites in view of the nallahs having changed their course.

Similarly, at Taru, the people urged for making available pipes for temporary restoration of irrigation kuhls to save the left over standing crops. The Governor was informed that the required steps would be taken in the coming days for arranging fodder for the livestock.

During his visit to Ney, the Governor met the people at the Government Primary School, Lajing-Ney where they submitted a Memorandum to him in regard to restoration of various infrastructural facilities. The team of officers apprised the Governor about the immediate and short-term measures being taken for the rehabilitation of flood victims. He also interacted with the school children at Ney and Bazgo.

On reaching Bazgo, the people thanked the Governor for visiting their area and presented details of the losses to the bridges, culverts, link roads, houses, standing crops, fruit bearing and other trees, besides the local micro hydel project. The Chief Executive Councillor informed that four hand pumps are being installed there for meeting the immediate drinking water requirements of the people.               

At Nimu, the Governor while interacting with the locals was informed that the exact quantum of flood loss is being assessed and the immediate installation of hand pumps after floods to suffice the drinking water needs of the people.

On way to Leh, the Governor visited 3 Artillery Brigade Headquarters and had discussions with Brig. D. S. Gill and other officers where he thanked for their prompt support to the flood affected persons in the area. He presented a memento to Brig. Gill.

Later, on return to Leh, the Governor visited Army Hospital and the Government SNM Hospital and enquired about the condition of the injured due to floods who are receiving treatment at these hospitals. At the Army Hospital, Brig. A. Dutta and CO of the Hospital, Col Anurag Khanna made a power point presentation about the treatment provided to the flood injured. He also interacted with the injured and wished them a speedy recovery.
