Shundor Polo festival handed over to Chitral

Shundoor polo festival management responsibility restored Chitral district.

CHITRAL:  According to a notification issued by ministry of tourism management responsibilities of Shundor Polo festival has been transferred to Gilgit from Chitral administration. The management had shifted by Gilgit tourism lobby to benefit Northern areas instead of Chitral. Hence the district government successes to convenience the government that Shundor polo festival is running by Chitral admin for the last so many years. Zilla council of Chitral also passed unanimous resolution and demanded from the federal government for shifting Shundor festival to Chitral through Provincial Government. After proper approach by district government of Chitral the Shundor festival was handed over once again to Provincial government of NWFP and now it will be celebrated through Chitral administration said Sartaj Ahmad Khan Tehsil Nazim Chitral in a press conference here.  He said that Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti also requested Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani to hand over Shundor responsibility to provincial government which was approved. He said Provincial Minister Syed Aqel Shah also play vital role in this connection and now Shundor was once again handed over to Chitral. As it was long awaited demand of Chitral,s people that Shunor should be celebrated by Chitral Admin instead of Gilgit.

Players and inhabitants of Laspor were very much pleased on this decision because celebrating Shundor polo at that area the local people are automatically benefiting by tourists. He said Shahzada Sikandar of Polo Association Chitral, Capt Siraj Chairman Chitral Association for Mountain Area Tourism (CAMAT), district Nazim had also warned that Shundor polo will be boycott if it was transferred to Gilgit. Hence it was re-shifted to Chitral and now people of the area are very much pleased and determined to celebrate it with full pledge and new spirit.  Shundor polo festival is due from July 7 to 9 as usually celebrating each year. It is expected that thousands of local and foreign tourists will approach to Shondor to enthrall from this festival.
