Silva Flies High In Clásico

Despite high-profile signings and being under the spotlight persistently, América’s season was going nowhere fast.

Enter Daniel Brailovsky.

As of right now, he was the right man to bring in having leave the TV studio (for a little while at least) to coach once again. He is one that knows and feels the history of being an Águila and feeling that azulcrema jersey. To make things even better, he found a way to make mustard look classy.

But of all the stars on this team, the one that took the spotlight was a youngster that bleeds the cream and blue- Juan Carlos Silva. His brace was definite and more importantly made him

Omar Bravo made things interesting when he scored just minute later, ending a 418-minute drought on the América goal. The visitors showed greater initiative on the attack, but the América kept them honest with several counterattacks that although didn’t end up in the back of goal of Luis Ernesto Michel, but make the Chivas defense think twice about going too crazy on the attack.

América seemed to be back in the race for the Liguilla as they leapfrogged all the way to sixth place in the overall standings but still only in third place in Group B behind Santos Laguna (33) and Atlante (26).

Even thought América won a must-win game, things do get get any easier as they will have to play Atlante at the Azteca if they pretend to be in the postseason.

Chivas in the meantime, culminated a horrid week which saw them crash out of the Copa Sudamericana at the Estadio Jalisco against a cagy Arsenal side. They will now head home to face a hot Monterrey side that are coming off a big win against Pachuca which saw Chilean international Humberto Suazo truly break out.
