Simple Ways to Help With Your Diabetes

Diabetes is a serious disease that isn’t easy to live with.  If someone doesn’t control their diabetes they face ghastly consequences.  Fortunately diabetes is a disease that people do have some control over.  To a large extent a diabetic holds their fate in their own hands.  There are some simple  ways to help with your diabetes.

1. Exercise:  A diabetic needs exercise even more than a "normal" person.  Exercise helps the cells use glucose correctly, and helps bring blood sugar readings down.  A diabetic should strive to exercise 6 days a week for at least 30 minutes a day.

2. Glucose Meter: Diabetics should check their blood sugar frequently.  When newly diagnosed they should check it after everything they eat, and every morning for a fasting reading.  Diabetics should strive for readings under 100 at all times. Getting as close to this goal as possible will stave off complications.

3. Eating: Diabetics have total control of what foods they eat.  They should avoid sugary and starchy foods.  The main staples of a diabetic diet should be low carb foods such as meat, eggs, cheese, non-starchy vegetables, and low sugar fruits like berries.

4. Stress: Stress can raise a diabetic’s blood sugar.  For this reason, diabetics should practice coping skills and stress management.  Learn ways to deal with issues that arise without getting bent out of shape.  Meditation is a great thing for diabetics to practice.

5. Check ups: Diabetics should stay in close contact with their physician.  Regular check ups are a must in the fight against diabetes.  Going to the doctor on a regular basis and getting all the required test will keep diabetics abreast of any problems sooner rather than later.  The quicker problems are found the easier they are to treat!

Keeping these simple things in mind and practicing them will help with your diabetes control.  This is the only life you have and you need to make the most of it.  Do what it takes to maintain control of your life!

Angel Sharum: Angel Sharum is a Georgia Peach ripening in Alabama. Never one to shy away from voicing her opinion, Angel found the perfect venue to share her thoughts when she started writing non-fiction articles for online publications.

The success of her articles convinced her to try her hand at other forms of writing. Putting what friends and family called a vivid and sometimes twisted imagination to use, she began writing poetry and short fiction. It didn’t take long for her to realize this was where her true passion lay.

Writing short stories allows her to take readers on journeys of imagination that linger beyond “The End” and poetry offers a way for her to shake up people’s emotions and make them think. According to Angel, when she accomplishes her goals a truly special connection exists between her and her readers.
