It looks like Singapore will have to settle for a Silver medal this Olympics, after being slaughtered by the Chinese Team at the finals tonight.
China beat Singapore 3-0.
Though things looked promising for SIngapore’s Feng Tianwei in the beginning after she won the first game 9-11 against China’s Wang Nan, it became clear that she was unable to repeat the feat.
Wang quick reflexes coupled with her attacks unsettled the usually calm Feng who made numerous mistakes as the match progressed. She went on to claim victory in the next three games, 11-3, 11-8, 11-6.
The same thing happened in the next match. Zhang Yining of China lost the first game narrowly to Singapore’s Li Jiawei 9-11, but went on to prove why she’s world number one. Dubbed the "Silent Assasin", Zhang showed little expression even as she climbed up the scoreboard, convincingly trashing Li 11-3, 11-4, 11-7.
For the doubles, Wang Yuegu and Li Jiawei showed to be no obstable in China’s way for Gold. They lost all three games to Guo Yue and Zhang Yining 11-8, 11-5, 11-6.
Even though Gold has eluded Singapore this time, the country can still be proud of achieving the second Silver Olympic medal in its history.
