Srinagar,July 22 (Scoop News) -Sir Sayeed Memorial School lifted Shehar-e-Khas T-20 Cricket Tournament defeating AB Cricket Fighters in the final match played at Kashmir University Ground today.
Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports R S Chib was the chief guest on the occasion.
9-day Sheher-e-Khas U-16 T-20 Cricket Tournament was organized by All India Centre for Urban & Rural Development (AICURD), a local NGO in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council and army in which 7 teams from Shehar-e-Khas participated.
The winner team bated first and secured 123 runs in 19 over while the loser team secured only 100 runs losing all wickets.
Speaking on the occasion, Chib complimented the organizers for holding the event to tap the budding cricket talent at local level and groom them for their participation at national and international levels. He said that the budding players who are getting training at initial stage of their age would become more competitive, adding that one day they will be able to bring laurels to the state. The Minister sought involvement of private sector for the promotion of sports in the state.
Chib announced one cricket kit to each team participated in the tournament.
Later, the Minister gave away trophy and cash prize of Rs. 30,000 to the winner and Rs. 20,000 to runner-up teams. Best performers of the tournament were also given cash prizes.
Earlier, the Minister attended prize distribution function at Badami Bagh Cantonment, organized by Chinar Invitational Golf (CEPTA). He presented awards to the golfers in various categories, these including GoC, headquarter, 15 Corps, Lieutenant General, Om Parkash, DGP, K Rajindra, IG, CRPF, Dr. Romesh, GoC, Sub Area, Major General, P D Hallur, Chief of Staff 15 Corps, Major General Arya and Chief Engineer 15 Corps Brig Navin Ahuja.
Among others, GoC, headquarter, 15 Corps, Lieutenant General, Om Parkash, IGP, Kashmir S M Sahai, IG, Civil Security, H K Lohia, DIG, A Mujtaba, GoC, Sub Area, Major General, P D Hallur, Colonel, Arun Awasthi, Chairperson, AICURD Mrs. Rabia Baji, Member, J&K State Sports Council Fazal, Deputy Director, Youth Services and Sports and Vice President, School Games Federation of India Ashok Kumar, all ranks of army and sports lovers were present on the occasion to witness the match.
