Six Charged For Insulting The Sultan.
Six people were charged earlier this week with insulting the Sultan Of Perak. Perak is a state in the federation of Malaysia and one of the nine having traditional rulers.
These are among the many cases brought before the court these days that was connected with crime on the internet. Malaysia is among the earliest nation framing rules and regulations pertaining to the use and applications of the internet.
Under The Multimedia And Communication Act [1998], the unwise use of network and network services for spreading comments, demands, suggestions or communication which are vulgar, false, threatening or disturbing, if proven, can be fined up toRM50,000.00 or one year jail.
Azrin Zain, a lab assistant, was guilty of posting the offensive comments on a site that is linked to the Perak Palace. He was fined RM10,000.00 and in default five months jail.
The Malaysian population has been advised to use the internet wisely and with full responsibility. The public at large has been voicing their dismay over the abuse of many websites. They said that the sense of fun and wonder is now lost due to actions of certain irresponsible people.
