SKIMS performs complex maxillo-facial reconstruction

 

 

           Srinagar, June 06   – The Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, SKIMS,Srinagar in Kashmir has successfully performed a complex surgery of a patient and reconstructed his mandible after excision of tumour. The patient was operated by Dr. Inaam Zaroo and Dr. Adil Hafiz. Such surgeries require enormous skill and patience and usually last 15 hours. 

The Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery has been performing maxillo-facial reconstructions, especially in patients with advanced mandibular and oral cavity cancers. Such patients earlier had very little chance of recovery, but nowadays, with complex surgical techniques and micro-vascular surgeries, they have improved survival chances, said Prof. M. A. Darzi, HoD, Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. 

          The Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery has been imparting M Ch for the last six years and has recently been given recognition by the Medical Council of India (MCI).
