Srinagar, June 07 (Scoop News) –Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Thursday highlighted the importance of knowledge exchange particularly in healthcare discipline to address ever increasing challenges in this field.
Addressing 3-day Asian Endourology Conference (AEC) 2012 at SKICC here, the Chief Minister said that research and studies conducted globally to make medicare more appropriate and effective, the sharing of findings by the medical fraternity to benefit mankind globally is all the more necessary.
The Chief Minister said that organizing regional and international conferences on various subjects of human importance provide necessary platform to the experts and subject matter specialists to ponder upon crucial issues and exchange valuable experience and knowledge.
Omar Abdullah said that medical care field is such a discipline where learning never stops. He said that new medicines, new technology and new methods of treatment are daily born and there is need to be well informed and knowledgeable about latest discoveries. He said conferences of this nature provide opportunity to the medical professionals to learn about new trends and practice these in the hospitals.
“We do not lack in expertise, talent, faculty or infrastructure. Whatever we require is the exposure and linkage with the latest happenings in medical field in the world”, he said adding that in almost all reputed health institutions in the world we find doctors and professors from the Valley rendering their service in various capacities.
Expressing the hope that there will be a reverse brain drain enabling the State to constitute best faculties, the Chief Minister said that this would al;so contribute the efforts of the government in making SKIMS one of the leading health care institutions in the world.
Referring to the visionary concept of Late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah to establish world class hospital at the picturesque site of Soura, the Chief Minister said that SKIMS was aimed at providing modern health facilities to the common people in the Valley who had to travel distant destinations for specialized treatment.
Omar Abdullah said that the medical tourism envisioned by Sher-i-Kashmir at that time when corporate sector in medical field in India has not even thought of it, was a right step in right direction to establish a world class medical institute which would be economically viable and of greater service to the people of the State especially to the poorer sections of the society. He said government is working to realize this vision and make SKIMS the center of health care excellance.
“New researches and experiments are going on unabated to work out methodology and introduce medicines to provide befitting treatment to the critical diseases”, he said and expressed hope that the pooling of knowledge and outcomes of experiments would enhance the expertise of doctors participating in such conferences. “This would also expand the accessibility orbit for people to get modern treatment in the State”, he said and complimented the organizers of the conference for selecting
