Jammu,March 29 (Scoop News) – The Division of Fruit Science, SKUAST-Jammu organizes one day training programme on high density planting of guava under the HTMM project “High density orcharding of mango and guava in Jammu subtropics” on 29th of March, 2012 at private land of a orchardist Shammi Saini at Saini Mohalla, Gole Talab Tillo, Jammu where in forty five progressive farmers/orchardists participated.
Dr. Akash Sharma, Principal Investigator of this project explained merits of high density planting he said, traditionally guava orchards accommodates only 277 plants/ha as against 555 plants/ha under High density planting resulting in higher yields per unit area. Dr. Sharma educated the orchardists about high density orcharding wherein the trees are not allowed to grow beyond three metre and are managed in a manner to carry out the cultural management and this system of guava planting is going to revolutionize the guava industry by enhancing productivity coupled with reduction in production costs.
Prof. V.K.Wali highlighted the importance of the high density technology and educated the participants about appropriate plant density, canopy management, quality planting material, orchard management with appropriate systems. Prof. Stressed upon the farmers for adotion of this technology by planting more trees per unit area for getting more output from less space thereby helping fruit growers to improve their socio-economic condition as well as and will boost guava culture under Jammu province.
Dr. Parshant Bakshi brief’s participants about the importance of Mrig bahar fruiting and balanced fertilisation by which fruit growers can minimise the unproductive components and improve quantity with their specifications on quality. The other officials present were Kewal Swaroop, Rampal, Bihari Lal and Sanjeev Sambyal.
