Katra, January 12, (Scoop News)-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University jointly organised a symposium as part of the celebration of the National Youth Day to mark the 151st Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda at the University Campus at Kakryal today. The topic of the Symposium was “Perspective Role of Youth in Nation’s Development”.
Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, was the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bhandari congratulated the Shrine Board and the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University for jointly organising the National Youth Day, adding that the function was very well conceived and beautifully presented. He observed that the National Youth Day represents and symbolises the Birth Anniversary of the great scholar, saint and personality this nation had been endowed with.
Highlighting the salient features of life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda, the Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board said that his teachings stood for need for learning and education, propagation of the rich Indian culture, purity of thought and conscience, morality based on intrinsic purity, merger of science and religion and strength which our youth symbolizes. He observed that there is strong need for revival and propagation of the ideals and the path shown by the distinguished sufis, saints, spiritual personalities, philosophers and great thinkers which our country has produced, and spread the message of peace, harmony, brotherhood, amity and ethical and moral values. He emphasised the role of youth in nation building.
The CEO said that organising of a Symposium provided a valuable opportunity to the participants to focus on the variou dimensions of the Swamiji’s life with a view to enlarging awareness about them.
He lauded the captivating cultural programme presented by the students of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Bhartiya College of Education, Udhampur and Amba Kids, Panthal on this occasion, which was based on the theme of rich composite cultural heritage and national integration.
Prizes were awarded to the students who excelled in the Symposium. They included Shubham Tiwari and Ms. Ankita Keshari of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, who were adjudged first and second respectively in the senior group. In the junior group, Amar Pratap of Amba Kids, Panthal got the first prize, while Abhishek Kumar of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University received second prize. In the cultural event, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University got first prize, Bhartiya College of Education, Udhampur got second prize and Amba Kids, Panthal secured third prize.
A documentary on the life and contributions of Swami Vivekananda was also screened on this occasion. Mrs. Roop Avtar Kour, Registrar, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, was the Guest of Honour on this occasion.
In his welcome address, Prof. Yugal Khajuria, Dean of Students, spoke about the aims and objects of organising the Symposium and the cultural event to celebrate the Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
Ashok Kumar, Director Sports, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, presented a Vote of Thanks. He highlighted the role of youth in nation building.
Among those present on the occasion were Faculty members, staff, students and prominent citizens of the area, including P. L. Suri, Rakesh Wazir, Shyam Kesar, A. S. Katoch and Harish Dubey.
