Sneha Phillip disappeared on September 10, 2001 and was never seen again. She was last seen at the Century 21 store near the World Trade Center towers in New York City, near her lower Manhattan apartment. Her family and friends believe she died when the towers collapsed a day later, either helping people out of the burning buildings or providing support on the ground. But since her whereabouts on September 11, 2001 are not certain, she was taken off the list of 9/11 attack victims by court order in 2004.
Today, September 11, 2008, Dr. Sneha Phillip will be back on the list of victims, a victory for her supporters who wanted to see her honored with the other victims of the attack.
The 2004 court order that removed her name from the victim list said that Sneha Phillip might have disappeared in an unrelated incident. It accused her of drug use and "loose morals" as a contributing factor to her disappearance. Phillip’s widower, Ronald Lieberman, has played a role in helping the family clear Phillip’s name and get her onto the 9/11 victims list.
Members of her family will be present at ground zero in New York City today to hear her name read aloud at the place where they strongly believe she perished.
