Srinagar, October 22 (Scoop News) – The 3 day training course on “Integrated Soil and Water Conservation” concluded here today. The function was presided over by Commissioner Secretary Forest, . Shantamanu.
Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner/Secretary Forest highlighted the necessity of soil conservation in preserving and conservation of forests and green cover. He said soil conservation is necessary for maintaining the ecological balance adding that the officers of forest department especially soil conservation department should expedite all the available resources for ensuring soil conservation in forests and agricultural land which is essential for socio-economic prosperity of the state, . Shantamanu added.
He asked the officers to popularize water shed management schemes for conserving water for irrigating the farm land and also for drinking purposes in Kandi and rain fed areas. He stressed the need for massive plantation to expand the green cover which he said was imperative for purity of environment and atmosphere.
The training course was attended by field functionaries of soil conservation department besides experts from neighboring states of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.
The objective of the training programme was to make the field functionaries aware about the concept and philosophy of water shed management and soil and moisture conservation. The technical skills of the staff in landslide control, stream bank erosion control and water harvesting was upgraded by specific session on each of the items.

Vinod Rangan also spoke on the occasion.
The function was attended by offices of Soil Conservation department and Forest department.
