Srinagar May 14 (Scoop News) – J&K Government is contemplating to set up Solar Power Plants in Ladakh region under Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) Programme for which Union Government has sanctioned various schemes of Rs, 500 crore. Out of which, schemes of Rs. 270 crore have been earmarked for Kargil district.
This was stated by Minister for Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution and Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon, while chairing a meeting of officers here today.
For this, Akhoon expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah for sanctioning Rs. 500 crore first time for Ladakh region for initiating such schemes in the area.
Under the programme, 11 micro hydle projects of 12.5 MW, 30 Solar Photo Volta (SPV) power plants of 5-100kWP, 4 SPV power plant of 100KWP, 98 SPV power plant of 5-10kWP capacity besides 2000 SPV home lighting system, 2500 solar passive houses, 3500 solar green houses, 5000 solar water heating devices, 500 solar driers, establishment of Kargil Renewable Energy Development Authority (KREDA) office and other systems will be completed within three years, the meeting was told.
The meeting was told that Rs. 17 crore would be spent on establishment of solar power plants of 40 kwp in 10 villages of Kargil district in Phase-I. The villages being covered include Barchay, Saliskote, Stakchay, Goshan, Chazar, Biama, Lahlung, Khindiyal, Pandrass and Amzet Shakar are expected to be completed by October this year.
It was also informed that proposal for installation of solar plants in 10 health institutions, 10 higher secondary schools of the district are under active consideration of the Government. Besides these, some private educational institutions, orphan centres, offices of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil, Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, KREDA and 70 places of worship are being proposed to be covered under the programme.
Addressing the meeting, Akhoon emphasized for completion of the projects within stipulated time so that benefits could be percolated to the people for which the schemes have been framed.
Among others, Chief Executive Councillor and Chairman LAHDC, Kargil, Kachoo Ali Ahmad Khan, Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Riyaz Ahmad and Project Director, KREDA, Dr. M. K. Kumar attended the meeting.
