This article is an update to two GroundReport articles written this week about the shooting death of Indian student Soumya Tummala Reddy. "Indian Student Killed in Illinois, US" and "Soumya Reddy, Indian Student, Killed in USA"
While investigating the murder of 23 year-old Southern Illinois University student Soumya Tummala Reddy, police found the the body of her cousin Vikram Tummala in a nearby lake. Soumya Tummala’s body was found shot to death in a car licensed to Vikram Tummala on a boat ramp of a St. Louis, Missouri lake. The two are cousins and had been living at separate addresses in Maryville, Illinois. They are both originally from Andhra Pradesh, India.
Police still have few details about the two deaths but St. Louis County Police Officer Rick Eckhard said that nobody else was involved in the killings. Although mysterious, this statement leaves the possibility of a feud between the two cousins and a possible murder-suicide.
Joggers found the Soumya Tummala’s body on Saturday morning, leading police to believe she was killed sometime after the park closed on Friday night at 9 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. on Saturday when she was found. Vikram Tummala’s body surfaced in the lake while police were investigating the first body. Today, police are searching the lake for the murder weapon. Police do not know why the pair were in St. Louis or what events led to their death.
This story will be updated as more details emerge.
