The outcome that the SL genocide produced for SL and the sectarian South Block trio is incomplete as long as UN war crimes threat hangs over SL’s head. To counter this, the South Block sectarians mobilised its UN arm to stall the UN’s initiatives on SL war crimes. SL speeded up the defeat of the Tamils/resistance at the urging of the ‘in the loop’ Narayanan trio sooner in May not August 2009 as planned though this was expected to cause massive loss of lives. The result; the brutal massacres of the entire resistance leadership with tens of thousands civilians in Narayanan’s ‘fire free’ zone trap and internment of the rest hundreds of thousands civilians in the Narayanan-Gothabhaya barb wire fenced camps; all clear war crimes. The time frame was brought forward to May 2009 to avoid any adverse impact on the Indian elections for Congress and Sonia especially in TN. More important was US plans to evacuate the resistance leadership to safety. Delhi interpreted this humanitarian venture as US’s attempt to establish a foot hold in SL preferring China Instead; Narayanan’s strange geo-politics. During this critical month (May 2009) the Delhi ‘in the loop’ trio’s consultations with the SL Gothabhaya counter-parts were intense and most secretive but initial leaks came from the estranged Sarath Fonseka. Sarath will have has much more to reveal to a war crimes tribunal.
The sectarian South Block Delhi apologists no longer labour over the contrived and hollow geo-politics/economics arguments (not allowing SL to get too close to China) overlooking the core moral issues involved in human rights/war crimes in SL’s blatant human rights abuses. Delhi that once subscribed to the human aspirations enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) and subsequent conventions was to prevent/redress the human sufferings genocide caused that secular Delhi preferred to overlook in choosing to partner the SL genocide.
The international community especially, post Bush US, fine tuned the ‘terrorism’ doctrine to become tolerant of groups like the Tamil resistance fighting genocide. Buddhist Sinhala SL and the South Block Delhi labeled this US move away from the dogmatic view of ‘terrorism’ in favour of a nuanced approach a ‘mystery’ (- ‘The United States stand on Sri Lankan’s terrorism remain(s) a mystery’ (US Fed News Service April 1, 2010) and arguing that UN violates SL sovereignty, a dated concept. The heartless sectarian apologists joined the chorus rejoicing at the victory of SL genocide though there was a massacre of the entire Tamils’ armed resistance leadership with tens of thousands civilians and the interning hundreds of thousands in camps outclassing Guantanamo in cruelty; all crimes against humanity. Only Delhi’s drift away from Hindu dharma could accommodate these crimes.
Delhi’s record of marginalizing universal moral human rights considerations to partner in the SL’s genocide war is further tarnished by its efforts to styme SL war/human rights crimes initiatives in the UN. Delhi in the immediate aftermath of this massive massacre in May 2009 supported the May 2009 UNHRC resolution that effectively applauded SL genocide/massacres on defeating the Tamil resistance.
For some unknown reason(s) Delhi disassociated itself from the recent SL initiative, namely the Palitha Kohona’s deceptive NAM letter to Ban (issued while not in session) opposing Ban’s proposal to appoint an expert panel to advise him on SL’s human rights/war crimes. Yet the SL analyst U J Fernando concerned over ‘… Sri Lanka fast losing its true friends at the UN’ (7 April 2010) sheds invaluable light on the role of the Delhi South Block’s surrogate Indian officials (Nambiars and ..) in UN/Ban to cause delays in appointing the proposed expert panel with the intent to kill off progress on SL human rights/war crimes charges. The penetration of the Delhi South Block’s network in the UN interferes with UN’s SL war crimes initiatives and shamefully frustrates UN’s mandated role in curtailing the genocide culture worldwide. This analyst apparently privy to SL intelligence appears well informed on the activities of the South Block in UN.
According to this SL analyst the Nambiar like UN officials obligated to SL for past favours obliged the South Block to protect the perpetrators of the SL genocide from UN war crimes proceedings to deliver justice to the victims. In effect the Nambiar types in the UN are striving to save SL and its anti-Tamil ‘in the loop’ Narayanan trio partners involved in directing SL’s successful May offensive that crushed Tamil aspirations and also caused the massacres related crimes. The efforts of the Delhi South Block’s arm in the UN to safeguard SL from UN’s war crimes processes frustrates the international community’s ( in particular US, UK and EU dedicated to the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights) keenness to deliver justice for the SL genocide victims – the Tamils. The unfortunate consequence of the South Block inspired delay in UN acting on the SL genocide crimes encourages SL to vigorously pursue the Buddhist Sinhala occupation of Tamil Eelam and for the atrocities flowing from such an occupation (Tibet style) to go unchecked. Eelam Tamils had the protective umbrella of the resistance fighters for nearly three decades. That was destroyed in May 2009, thanks to the Narayanan saga. That the international arm of the South Block/SL genocide is indeed formidable is vouched by its ability to cripple UN acting on SL’s human rights/war crimes thus far. This is a human tragedy.
The UN Nambiar also undercut the US inspired UN efforts to save (ship out) the leadership of the Tamil resistance from slaughter. To frustrate this US move the Narayanan trio pressured SL to rush ahead with the SL assault that resulted in the massacres. The UN Nambiar sent to SL and the region by Ban at the instigation of the US did nothing to prevent the massacres and in fact went missing for about ten days allowing the window free of pressure for the Narayanan/Gothabhaya duo to neatly execute the massacres of the entire resistance leadership. UN Nambiar colluded with the Narayanan trio and SL to thwart the West’s war crimes initiatives specifically UN appointing an expert to report on SL human rights abuses to Ban. The delays being experienced in this issue should not surprise readers. The Nambiar’s and Narayanan’s visits to SL and the region in those critical month(s) are not mere coincidences. Nambiar who not long before benefitted from his military advisory contracts with SL did not opt out of the UN SL mission in May 2009 despite clear evidence of a major conflict of interest. Do moral niceties really matter to those tainted by some role in the SL genocide?
The signals that come out of the UN on the SL war crimes issue are too confusing for readers to be convinced that the mandated UN will deliver on its core human rights objectives; deter genociders and provide relief to SL genocide victims. Will the war crimes initiatives disappear into thin air in the manner email petitions to UN from Tamils on the continued oppression under military occupation in Tamil Eelam are disposed off by the Nambiar inspired UN officialdom? The performance of the UN thus far over the SL war crimes negates its precedent setting achievements in the Yugoslavia genocide in the 1990s.
