(1888 PressRelease) Special 10th Season Fundraising Event will Feature HUGHIE a Play by Eugene O’Neill and Musical Performances by Jazz Vocalist Miss Justine Keeys.
Philadelphia, PA-NJ – South Camden Theatre Company, a nonprofit professional theatre company located in Camden, New Jersey announces its annual fundraising event as it celebrates it’s upcoming 10th season. For one day only on Sunday, September 7 at 2p.m 2014, the fundraiser will feature HUGHIE a short two-character play set in 1920’s New York City. Written by Eugene O’Neill and directed by producing artistic director Joseph M. Paprzycki, the play stars Barrymore Award Winner William Rahill and Eric Pedersen. Also featured during the fundraiser are musical performances by Philadelphia jazz vocalist Miss Justine Keeys to immerse the audience in the 1920’s theme of the afternoon event. A full selection of wine and hors d’oeuvres will be severed before and after the performance.
HUGHIE, one of the final plays written by Eugene O’Neill, tells the story of low a level gangster named Eric Smith who returns to his flea bag hotel in New York City following the death of the former night clerk Hughie. Eric tells his tall tales to the new night clerk Charlie and we see that Erie and Hughie had lived their lives vicariously through each other’s stories as Erie and Charlie create a new friendship. South Camden Theatre Company brings the play to the stage at our home at Waterfront South Theatre for this special one day fundraising event.
Tickets for the event are available for purchase for $75 individually or $125 per couple online at http://www.southcamdentheatre.org, by calling 1-866-811-4111.
Producing Artistic Director Joseph M. Paprzycki states, “I selected HUGHIE as our theatrical showcase in our fundraiser as William Rahill and I have produced the play together over the past fifteen years in New York, Philadelphia, Rosemont College as well as SCTC. Eric Pederson joined us for our SCTC runs and the two of them together bring O’Neill’s powerful play of loneliness, tall stories and low level gamblers to brilliant life. We continue to honor the great playwrights by bringing Eugene O’Neill’s work to you at SCTC.”
The fundraising event will be held Sunday afternoon September 7, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the 96-seat Waterfront South Theatre located at 400 Jasper Street in Camden, New Jersey.
