A gun hoot in Jonglei strikes the entire country, I living in Central Equatoria feel the pain, and I think all South Sudanese do feel, but why no majors were put to stop the crisis. For how long do we want to be in pain really? On the 9th July 2011 South Sudanese turned in thousands to celebrate the independent date, and at that date our Government has assured us peace and happiness” a concern citizen living in Juba Mr. Stephen Taban told the reporters. The question that comes is where is the happiness? To answers the question we don’t need to look on to the Government nor for foreign help, rather task ourselves with responsibilities that work towards peace. Jonglei is a simple problem that can’t take us more than three week, it’s not even 0.01 of the Sudan, south Sudan problems, and to realize peaceful society, every South Sudanese whether being abroad or in the Country should come with plans on how to resolve Jonglei intercommunity clashes, because is not a new thing to either Government or the citizens.
The crisis was viewed in different perspectives, cultural, traditional, political and economical, so in this article I have come with political, social, economical and military strategies to resolve the Jonglei crisis. The Jonglei crisis that has claimed thousands of lives since the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) has finally strike all parts of the South Sudan and has put the entire country into fear, so we opt for military intervention through forceful disarmament of the communities. And express need for establishment of military offices and deployment of forces in between the borders of Lou Nuer, Murle and Bor communities. And also legal majors should be introduced to break down all military youths groups; like wide army of Lou Nuer. The Government to recruit youths who are much of military ideology to the National army, so that they exercise their talents in the best place rather uses their military talents on civil communities. The National and state Government to work hard with the local authorities to coordinate security in all parts of Jonglei and the Government officials at all levels to put interest of Nation on top tribal interest.
Jonglei intertribal fighting is not happening for the first time neither for the second time nor for the third time, it was since 1980s, but wasn’t like today where communities carry big weapons for attacking their neighbors. Jonglei intertribal fighting was meant for making money, as youths go and only raid cattle. It was not even for riches, but prestige, just every youth need to be on top of the rest in paying dowries. Eventually, the clashes reached to an extent where by communities abduct children just because they want to establish extended families, which doesn’t involve killing of people. To surprise the clash is now focusing on killing of civilians, looting of cattle, raping of women, abduction of children and displacement of the population.
According to Citizen Newspaper and Miraya FM, big machine Guns are now used for intertribal fighting, the immediate understanding that came to my attention was that when Sudan People Liberation Army (SPLA) fought Bashir Government was because they want Independence, and when Sudan Army Force (SAF) were fighting the SPLA during the war was because Bashir employ them to fight, but what is the main idea behind the Jonglei inter community clashes, because real those youths neither gain from the fight nor benefit, they only raid less cattle after deadly clashes. And if it’s real through that they don’t mean to kill themselves, then some people have taken the opportunity to exploit the ignorance of those youths, in the last clash, some politician who were warming for Governorship have started ring bell of splitting Jonglei into more states. They did not explain how the split can stop the clashes, because actually none of the fighters mentioned power as their area of concern, there focus was wealth. Due to lack of exposal and selfish among Jonglei communities, it made the state economically unstable, Jonglei were not exposed to ways of how youths can earn living, and some of the youths who got education became selfish in ways that some of them keep away from their communities, they have already adopt Western culture which is wrong for a growing state like South Sudan. And we found that those who joint their communities were uncooperative just because their parents thought them superiority, their most plans is to be on top of the rest, and act has affected their communities economical.
