South Sudanese prominent journalist died in motorbike accident

A prominent South Sudanese independent radio journalist Mr. Simon Tongun who works for Sudan Catholic Radio Network Bahkita Branch in Juba has died yesterday 05th Aug, 2013 in a motorbike accident. Tongun was assigned to cover the parliamentary session at the national Legislative Assembly, but got the accident as he was returning from the field work to the office. Tongun’s work colleagues confirmed the dead to the Juba Journalists forum around 7:00PM.
The death of the journalist has created a gap in the media sector, Tongun was eye to millions of south Sudanese who could access for themselves information. The accident happened at a time where Journalists in South Sudan are undergoing serious threats from the security personnel. The dead body of the late is under the care of his relatives.
