Srinagar,June 17 (Scoop News) – Speaker Lok Sabha, s. Meira kumar shall inaugurate an Exhibition titled “Legislatures in India”:“The pillars of Democracy” on the side lines of 4-days conferences of Presiding Officers and Secretaries of legislative Bodies of the country scheduled to commence at the J&K Legislature Complex in Srinagar at 9.30 a.m. on June 20, 2010.
The Exhibition, spread over twelve sectors, traces the growth and development of democratic institutions in India. Beginning from the modern parliamentary institutions, it lays special emphasis on the democratic system in modern India including India’s Freedom Movement; Constitution of India and working of Indian Parliament with the help of photographs, write-ups, charts, press-clippings etc. The Exhibition also showcases the Indian Federal System and the legislative set up in different States of the country, with particular emphasis on the legislative activities in Srinagar. Photographs related to the imperial legislative Council, Council of States, Central legislative Assembly and Constituent Assembly have also been shown in the Exhibition. It also highlights the evolution and origin of the office of the Speaker and importance of Presiding Officers and Secretaries Conference.
The Exhibition also includes audio-visual inputs on computer multi-media and LCDs, making the exhibition more interactive and appealing. A scanned copy of the Constitution of India can be accessed by the visitors on the computer multi-media. Also available on computer are multimedia presentations on modern democratic heritage, legislative reforms and functions of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
Films related to important events during India’s Freedom Movement and the Election process in India can also be seen at the Exhibition.
The Exhibition is being organized by the parliamentary Museum and Archives Division of Lok Sabha Secretariat and Jammu and Kashmir legislature Secretariats in collaboration with the Directorate of Advertising and Visual publicity (DAVP) of Government of India. The State Information Department has also organized a photo exhibition on the occasion.
