On Monday, March 9th Eric Sundwall’s campaign for the 20th Congressional District special election will submit petition signatures to qualify for the ballot. There will be a special election March 31st to replace Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), who was appointed by Governor Paterson to replace Hillary Clinton, now Secretary of State.
Sundwall is the Chair of the Libertarian Party of New York www.ny.lp.org. He is an information technology consultant from Niverville, New York in the Town of Kinderhook. Kinderhook was the home of one of our best presidents, Martin Van Buren.
The Libertarian candidate is emphasizing the issues put forth by presidential candidate Ron Paul and agreed to by alternative party presidential candidates Bob Barr, Chuck Baldwin, Ralph Nader and Cynthia McKinney. Sundwall’s campaign has been endorsed by former US Senator Mike Gravel.
Sundwall opposes the so-called stimulus bill. The Democrat candidate Scott Murphy supports it and the Republican candidate James Tedisco refuses to say.
We needed 3500 signatures and will submit about 7000. In 2006, the Republicans knocked Sundwall off the ballot by invalidating signatures for having the wrong town listed for the community of residence.
Now the next stage for the March 31st begins in earnest. We need money and we need it NOW! Not later, but now.
Please visit www.sundwall4congress.org and donate what you can afford. The legal limit is $2400.
Thanks to Jeff Russell, Bill McMillen, John Norris, Mike Cannella Werner Hetzner and others in the district who helped in many way. Thanks to legal counsel Jim Ostrowski from Buffalo.
Many thanks to Charles Shaw (Liverpool), Mike Sylvia (Ithaca) and our own Libertarian Party of NY vice-chair Chris Edes (Rochester) who came from outside the 20th district to gather signatures. Chris has done more than manning the phone and taking on other tasks. These men should be treated as heroic freedom-fighters.
Richard Cooper, Campaign Manager
Elect Eric Sundwall
