SPICV for regulating pornography on TV, internet

Jammu, September 15(Scoop News)- A meeting of Society for Promotion of Ideal Citizen Values (SPICV) was held at Jammu under the chairmanship of Kamal Jit Singh Founder member of the organization.

In the meet, the capital punishment meted out to the Delhi rape convicts was unanimously hailed. It was observed by the members that the exemplary and path-breaking decree to the Court to award death sentence in the much-clamored gang rape case is in spirit of justice, law of land and humanitarian obligations.

At the same time SPICV pointed out that the scourge of rape and sexual violence in worst extent cannot be (and must not be) seen from the viewpoint of law and punishment (legal & penal aspect) only.

SPICV members maintained that as per science of psychology the sex urge both in positive and socially permissible form (marriage ) as well as perverted one (sexual violence and rape ) are ‘psycho-biological drive’ under affect of the thought process and impulses.

In this context there are some aspects which are key factors in controlling in such crimes. The prevalence of the pornographic programmes on TV as well as internet is making the youngsters’ mind degenerated. It has been usually documented in research and case studies that most forms of crime (murder, sex crime etc) in their ‘’cruellest extent are invariably committed under drugged state of mind. Similarly the rapists in present day are either prolific porn watchers, obsessive or drug addicts.

In a nutshell, until and unless the adult, pornographic matter is not regulated by the central and state govt on TV and internet, even stringiest provisions lie death sentence shall not curb the menace of rapes. The possible suggestive measure may be to at least allow the adult programmes to get broadcasted on TV/web only during a specific time-slot like after midnight. Moreover the Censor Board Chairman has to an upright renowned ex army top brass rather than a former film personality as the latter has innate tendency of compromise and leniency in gauging the psychological impact of adult content. SPICV further demanded separate Censor Board for TV programmes and advertisements to stop the commercialization of Image of womanhood.

The members present in the meeting were Girdhari Lal Sharma, Sharad, Dapinder Singh and others.
