Spill over effects of instability in Afghanistan

When Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in 1979, was termed as an aggressor by US lead free world, Pakistan was being declared frontline state to combat Soviet aggression, Baluchistan and NWFP Provinces of Pakistan became centers of supply of arms and men to Afghan Freedom Fighters, religious seminary students, and university students were motivated to join the fight against Soviet aggressors in Afghanistan, Jamat Islami student wing Islami Jamiat Tuleba and Student wing of Jamiat Ulema Islam, known as Jamiat Tuleba Islam were busy in recruiting young college and university students to get training and join fight against Soviet aggressors in Afghanistan, to combat militant wings of these both religious polititical parties within and outside the campuses, moderate political parties like Pakistan Peoples Party and Muslim League had also created its militant wings, Jamat Islami was using its militants to dominate the campuses and national political scene through its militant wings, Afghan war had introduced Klashinkove Culture in Pakistani society, “ in each home of NWFP and Baluchistan Klashinkove has become valuable possession, and can be found in abundance” a leader of Jamiat Ulema Islam has said. Factories producing weapons in tribal area of Dara Adam Khel became a cheap source of purchasing weapons, gradually Pakistan due to spillover affects of Afghan war was heading towards anarchy, in 1991 finally Soviets had retreated from Afghanistan, due to economic cost of aggression in Afghanistan Soviet Union was dismembered, and prime cold war adversary of USA was utterly defeated on all fronts, due to superior US ideological and technological base USA has emerged as the only world power, capable of leading the world.

War in Afghanistan was ended in 1991, Democrats came into power in USA, due to their traditional isolationist stance Afghanistan was left at the mercy of Afghan war lords, increased weapon trade and growing militancy of Islamic and moderate Political Parties of Pakistan, was an outcome of instability in Afghanistan, ‘rise of Taliban in Afghanistan was having its ideological roots in Jamat Islami and Jamiat Ulema Islam of Pakistan, even today Taliban militants are protected in tribal areas of Pakistan by members of these Islamic political parties,’ said by a head of NGO network in NWFP. After nine eleven Republican President of USA Mr George W Bush had decided to end militancy and to promote democracy in Middle East and Afghanistan, US lead forces came to Iraq and Afghanistan with prior UN mandate to fight against terrorism and to promote democracy in these countries, common people in Afghanistan or Pakistan are unable to differentiate between Soviet naked aggression, and US and its allied forces UN approved arrival in Afghanistan, indoctrinated students trained by Islami Jamiat Tuleba and Jamiat Tuleba Islam in campuses were inducted in Pakistan Army and Bureaucracy at large scale, during General Zia era from 1977 to 1986, Pakistan was further pushed towards extremism. When General Parvez Musharaf took over power in bloodless coup de entente, and have joined alliance relationship in War against terrorism with USA, tough resistance in shape of two suicide attacks on his life was faced by him, because, Arab Alqaida Leader of terrorist aptitude Mr. Usama bin Ladin was having enough support and operational capability within Pakistani Armed forces, that cunning Arab have successfully befooled Afghan and Pakistani Muslims in tribal areas, though basically he is an Arab nationalist, but to achieve his goals he has adopted role of a great Islamic warrior. Gradually his influence is decreasing, President Musharaf has confronted him bravely and intelligently, but still remnant of his Alqaida organization can be found in Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan, his ideological followers are spread around the world.

Due to lack of education people of Afghanistan, tribesmen of tribal areas in Pakistan, are unable to realize the fact that ideology of extremism propounded by Taliban and Alqaida extremist thinkers can lead them towards disaster, they are playing in the hands of extremists, pursuing their selfish motives, most of Alqaida and Taliban leaders are good orators and can trap innocent young people through their jargon into grip of extremism. During Taliban rule in Afghanistan almost all universities and colleges were closed, university professors and other educated people became all jobless, when pro Taliban MMA alliance of religious political parties came into power through ballot in Balochistan and NWFP Provinces of Pakistan, in tribal areas of NWFP many schools were closed, ‘ in Peshawer capital of NWFP student wing of Jamat Islami has removed all the bill boards carrying pictures of women no other step is taken by pro Taliban government to Talibanize Peshawer’, said by Deputy Secretary Mr. Ammanullah of Public Accounts Committee. Unlike Communist Proletariat, Taliban are having only religious education, common factor between Communists and Taliban is that both are products of economic backwardness, ‘ Taliban also believe in keeping possession of all the gold in government exchequer, they do not allow possession of gold ornaments by public in Taliban State’, said by a pro Taliban teacher of Islamic Studies.

Peshawer University is also affected adversely, when pro Taliban student wing of Jamat Islami has strengthened its grip in its campus, ‘only MA qualification is enough to teach in Peshawer University, we do not encourage PhD or M.phil degree holders to teach in Peshawer university’, lecturer of Peshawar university and member of Jamat Islami has said, in International Relation Department of Peshawar university PhD admissions were announced, while only one PhD was available in faculty, qualification for PhD candidate was M.phil for admission in PhD but course work of six months were compulsory for each candidate before qualifying for writing of PhD dissertation, all the lecturers available to teach during course work were only MA by themselves. Situation is still the same in Peshawar university Talibanized Campus only allow induction of MA in jobs.

‘After Passage of Hisba bill, pro Taliban NWFP government of MMA will create parallel judicial system, and separate Mullah force to Talibanize the province’, said by Income Tax department Official Mr. Ikram Ullah.Hisba bill is passed by NWFP Provincial Assembly but it is not signed by Governor NWFP yet, meanwhile women rights bill passed by National Assembly and Senate of Pakistan is resisted by pro Taliban MMA Opposition in National Assembly and Senate, near Speen Jamat Peshawer University student wing of Jamat Islami has staged a protest demonstration to denounce women rights bill, students holding bamboo sticks and flags of Jamat Islami in their hands were creating good deal of noise and terror, in presence of heavy contingent of police, university road was blocked, students and teachers of schools were compelled to walk on foot towards their homes, ‘each demonstrator of Jamat Islami is hiding a pistol in his shalwar’ a social worker present near the demonstrating students has said. Instability in Afghanistan is only source of present unrest and terrorist activities in Pakistan, due to long border between both countries virtually it is impossible for Pakistan Army to stop arrival of refugees and infiltrators into Pakistan, ‘ weapons snatched by Taliban in Afghanistan are smuggled into Pakistan’ an eyewitness has said. Impacts of Talibanization in Afghanistan are felt in each sphere of life in Pakistan, education to economy every field of life is adversely affected, the worst aspect of this whole episode is spread of irrational thinking and extremism, if no remedy is devised can endanger the world peace.
