Advocacy workshop on health held among SPO, CHEETA, Health department.
CHITRAL: A tripartite workshop and dialogue held among Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO), Chitral Health, Education and Environment Triad Association (CHEETA) and government health Department. Dr. Saad Maluk Deputy DHO was representing health Department while Dr. Nazir Ahmad Medical Superintendent of DHQ Hospital and other doctors were also present on the occasion. Professor Muhammad Dost from CHEETA and Ajaz Durrani and Miss Zaibun Nisa from SPO. Ghani Rahman Lecturer briefed the participants comprising over members of these organizations regarding health situation in Chitral. He said that majority of hospitals of Chitral deprived from waiting rooms especially separate waiting room for women folk as well as lack of toilets also a burning issue. According to data 57% hospitals have no toilets, similarly 45% health units are facing shortage of drinking water, as well as 17.1% health units have no injection disposal device. These health units also facing great shortage of furniture (chairs). 48.6 hospitals have no polio vaccine storage system and Anti Rabies Vaccine also not available in majority of our hospitals. Besides it these hospitals also facing acute shortage of female paramedics and female medical technician staff as a result problems of 55% patients are not redressing.
During the workshop the participants recommended for planning of district health plan in the district. Addressing on the occasion AJaz Durrani program specialist of SPO said that SPO working in different parts of country and this is a purely community organization strengthening state institutions for benefiting local community in long term. He said that SPO always trying to initiate an energetic developmental program through involving and participating of local community. In 2008 it focused on rights based developmental schemes and success to achieve its target. Its main objective is to promote accountability, good governance, create awareness on human rights etc. He said that we work in 3 sectors to educate illiterate people (about basic education), provision of opportunity of gaining livelihood and 100 women would be financially supported for income generation. 10 schools would be released 80000 each for necessary renovation and maintenance similarly 10 health units would also be supported with the same amount and monitoring committees in 10 different union councils analyzing progress of health and education sector and they will submit their report to district monitoring committee for brining positive changes. And thus we facilitate state running institutions to energetic its staff for providing services to local community. At last a district health monitoring committee was also detailed during the workshop. Dr. Saad Maluk, M.I. Khan Sarhadi chairman district Zakat Committee, Dr. Yahya, Dr. Noorul Islam district TB control program, Gul Hamaad Farooqi Journalist, Former Tehsil Nazim Sartaj Ahmad Khan and Dr Israrullah were nominated for district health monitoring committee which will overview overall activities and progress of health units in entire district in the light of local monitoring committees. A large number of different professionals participated in the workshop.
