Jammu, January 12(Scoop News) –The Additional Director General of Police (Armed/Law & Order) (ADGP), K. Rajendra Kumar said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has been playing an important role in promoting sports and refining talent of sports person in the state. He said that the sports have helped in a great way to channelise the energies of youth, besides keep them away from the vices of evils and crimes.
Rajendra was speaking at the closing ceremony of 3rd Police Martyr’s Memorial North Zone Inter Club T-20 Cricket Championship 2012-13 at Kathua this after noon. He said that the qualities found in a sports person are almost required to make a professional policeman. True sportsmanship symbolizes the virtues of courage and physical strength, teamwork and ability to face adversity with poise and dignity, so the qualities are expected to be an ingredient in the character of a policeman, said Rajendra.
The 20 day long tournament was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police in collaboration with Shaheed Welfare Committee Kathua and dedicated to the memory of policemen, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of the country and public service. In all 28 teams from and outside the state participated in the tournament. Various distinguished cricketers of national fame also participated in the tournament.
Final match was played between Ludhiana District Cricket Association and Sandhu Cricket Club Ludhiana which was won by Sandhu Cricket Club Ludhana after defeating his rival by four wickets.
Congratulating the winning team, the ADGP hoped that the event would draw inspiration for the sports lovers from the experiences of seniors to bring laurels for their teams. He said that the standards established by the event would be bettered in the years to come to refine the skills of the youth in the discipline. He disclosed that Jammu and Kashmir Police has designed its Civic Action Programme with the objective to promote sports culture in the state and by this way various sports activities are carried out to polish the skills of sports personnel within and outside the Organisation. The talented sports person are provided with free coaching and guidance to further their skills and excel at higher level, ADGP added.
Rajendra appreciated the role of organisers for their efforts to make the event a resounding success. He said that the hard work and the synergy among the organising committee and the members of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association was an important factor which made it a success. He thanked the people, who by their presence encouraged the players and the organisers during the twenty day long tournament.
Among others, the function was attended by DIG, Jammu Samba–Kathua Range, J. P. Singh, SSP Kathua, Atul Kumar Goel, Principal, PTS Kathua, R. K. Bhat, Additional SP Kathua, Zahid Naseem Manhas, Prominent citizens from the Town, large number of cricket lovers and families of police martyrs.
