Sports vital to inculcate team spirit, discipline, says JKCM

Jammu,April 01 (Scoop News) – J&K  Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today highlighted the importance of sports for inculcating discipline, team spirit and brotherhood in sports persons as also acting as an elixir for mental and physical development of youth.

Addressing at the prizes giving away ceremony of Inter-Zone Sports Meet-2010 of Jammu and Kashmir Police at Gulshan Ground here,  Omar stressed on expanding sports activities in the State. He praised the State Police Department for encouraging sports in Jammu and Kashmir and said that participation of jawans in various sports events enhances their caliber and alertness.

 Omar said that Jammu and Kashmir Police is emerging as one of the best forces in the Country adding that besides professional abilities State Police force has also earned laurels for the Department and the State in various sports winning prizes at the national and international events.

The Chief Minister said that Government along with modernization and capacity building in Police force is paying attention for encouraging more and more sports activities in the Department.

 Omar said that Government has chalked out an ambitious sports development programme in the State to provide opportunities to the youth to excel and prove their mettle at national and international levels.

Speaking on the occasion, the Director General of Police,  Kuldeep Khoda gave resume of the sports activities being nurtured and organized by the State Police Department. He said Jammu and Kashmir Police has participated in various national and international events and won outstanding prizes.

 Khoda gave details of the events in which Jammu and Kashmir Police has won the medals adding that jawans are being prepared to participate in future national and international events of various sports.

The Chief Minister gave away gold, silver and bronze medals besides trophies to the winners and other position holders in various events of athletics, volleyball, football, hockey, kabbadi, kho-kho, tag of war, etc. The men and women teams from six zones of police sports participated in the event and the Armed Zone received most of the prizes.

The Minister for Agriculture,  Ghulam Hassan Mir, Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports,  R. S. Chib, Minister of State for Tourism,  Nasir Aslam Wani, Advisor to the Chief Minister,  Devender Singh Rana, Member Parliament,  Ghulam Hassan Khan, Advocate General,  Mohammad Ishaq Qadiri, former Deputy Chief Minister,  Mangat Ram Sharma, officers and retired officers of Police Department were present.

The sports meet which started here on March 27 was declared closed by the Chief Minister today.
