Sri Lanka and Pakistan are up against each other for the 6th time over the last 6 years. This will be the last series for Mahela Jayawardene. A legend, who has given plenty of joy all across the small island will be playing in whites for the last time. It is only apt that the man, who has scored 5160 Test runs at these two venues (44.2% of his career runs), Mahela Jayawardene will play his final two Tests at his favourite venues.

The selectors resisted making too many changes to the team that lost 0-1 to South Africa. Dinesh Chandimal was axed while Lahiru Thirimanne should consider himself lucky to be given an extended run. Opener, Upul Tharanga showed improvement in his game after making a comeback against South Africa and has deservedly hung on to the opener’s slot. Kaushal Silva has been impressive, although he would be the first to admit he hasn’t made most of his starts. The skipper himself is in the middle of a serious run of scores. The trouble for the hosts starts thereafter though, the tail, barring Rangana Herath hasn’t shown any propensity to contribute with the bat while the number six batting spot remains unfilled.

After loss the test series against South Africa 1-0, Sri Lanka looking to fight hard against Pakistan. Dinesh Chandimal was axed while Lahiru Thirimanne should consider himself lucky to be given an extended run. Opener, Upul Tharanga showed improvement in his game after making a comeback against South Africa and has deservedly hung on to the opener’s slot. Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene are the big strenght for Sri Lankan Batting. The hosts went with three spinners for the 2nd Test against South Africa at SSC, but with Ajantha Mendis cut from the squad, Dhammika Prasad might partner Eranga with the new ball. Rangana Herath and Dilruwan Perera were the stand-out performers against South Africa, and will be expected to do a similar role again.

Misbah-ul-Haq’s men have had a decent period of rest going into the series and also have plenty of positive memories from the last time the two teams played. Down 1-0 in the 3-match Test series and needing to chase 302 from 59 overs to level the series at Sharjah, Azhar Ali and Misbah himself set up a thrilling victory in near darkness. There have been no major surprises in the tour party with Umar Akmal making a comeback into the Test team after a hiatus of three years. He will fight with Asad Shafiq for the final batting spot. In bowling Junaid Khan will lead a pretty raw pace unit with Mohammad Talha expected to partner him. The spin twins, Saeed Ajmal and Abdur Rehamn, who have proved themselves in sub-continental conditions will continue to lead the spin attack.
