Sri Lankan cricket players Attacked in Pakistan

Pakistan – Lahore: The Sri Lankan cricket team which is in Lahore to play the second Test was attacked upon by a gang of gunmen. On early Tuesday morning an array of gunmen open fired as the Lankan team was going to the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. It could be a major threat to the World Cup’s hosting in the sub-continent.

 
In this shocking incident Thilan Samaraweera, Tharanga Paranavitana, Kumar Sangakkara, Ajantha Mendis have been injured, the Sri Lankan Sports Minister has confirmed to the reporters that four of the players were injured and taken to hospital. Sri lankan cricket Team’s captain Mahela Jayawardene is also reported to be injured.
 
With immediate effect the Sri Lankan cricket board has cancelled the tour. The Pakistan police confirmed that assailant had automatic weapons the encounter with the unidentified gunmen is still going on.

 

The attack happened outside the Gaddafi stadium when the team was moving from the Liberty Chowk to the Polo Ground road on their way to the Gaddafi Stadium.Then all of a sudden two grenades were lobbed on the convoy, followed by indiscriminate firing. Seven policemen have lost their lives while a few others are reportedly injured.
