While Rejecting the News Item appeared in London Times last weak saying around 14,000 IDP’S in the Manik Farm Camp in Northern Sri Lanka are dying weakly due to Diarhea related diseases Both the Sri Lankan Health Secretary Dr.Athula Kahanda Liyanage and World Health Organization(WHO) Representative in Sri Lanka Dr.Firdosi Rustom yesterday said that News Item was totally Incorrect and Fabricated one.
Addressing a Press Briefing at the Ministry Of Health WHO Representative Dr.Rustom says that only 163 Deaths have been reported among IDP’S in Vavuniya of the Northern Sri Lanka during the period of 15th of June to 14th of July this year with a daily average death rate of 5.62.These deaths too occured due to diseases and malnutrition those IDP’S had suffering for several years he stressed.London Times not clarified the facts in their News Story from either Sri Lankan Epidemeology Unit nor any other Health Unit before publishing it Dr.Rustom pointed out.
The Enviornment of IDP Camps in Northern Sri Lanka are very Healthy according to the WHO Representative.
The Chief Judicial Medical Officer Of Colombo Dr.Ananda Samarasekera says there is a proper system of reporting Deaths of the IDP Camps work out at present.
