“He (Ganguly) was superb – a great motivator. I have no qualms in admitting that he brought the best out of me like he did out of many. Of course Anil (Kumble), Rahul (Dravid) were of great help, but I always feel fortunate to have played under Sourav’s.” said Former India speedster Javagal Srinath.
“It is really unfortunate. I remember an incident when some parents admitted their children to a camp in Bangalore.
“20 out of 30 wanted their children to become Sachin Tendulkars and Rahul Dravids. Well that is not a bad idea but they should also realise that nothing can be achieved easily. First they should enjoy the sport. I think parents’ incessant encouragement is very important,” said Srinath.
“ There are thousand ways to do that as far I was concerned. I would engage myself in reading books and mainly listening to Kishore Kumar’s songs. There is never any need to complain when you are low in spirits. Motivate yourself.”
“Well it is very helpful mainly to coaches, who can pin-point and rectify mistakes in no time. We could not enjoy that in a big way in my time.”
“I still remember the hardships we had faced while touring abroad. Thanks to the BCCI, we are a bit relaxed now. However, I feel we are 10 years behind our men counterparts.
Unfortunately, no big sponsors come to help us. We will be happy if some companies take the initiative to market and promote women’s cricket.” said Ace Indian batswoman Mitahli Raj.
