St Louis Missouri. The St Louis Cardinals on Friday have activated from the 15 day disabled list catcher Yadier Molina, 32. Molina was in a rehabilitation assignment with the Springfield Cardinals.
The Springfield Cardinals are the AA minor league branch of the St Louis Cardinals. To make room for Molina on the Cardinals 25 man roster, catcher Tony Cruz was demoted to play baseball with the Springfield Cardinals on Friday.
Molina has not played with the St Louis Cardinals since he broke his right thumb on July 9. The recovery time for Molina’s broken thumb injury was to last between eight to 12 weeks.
Molina is expected to be in the starting lineup on Friday at Busch Stadium in St Louis when the Cardinals host their National League Central Division rivals the Chicago Cubs this weekend.
Molina made his debut in the Major Leagues with the St Louis Cardinals in 2004. Molina is one of the most valuable players on the Cardinals roster.
The Cardinals welcome Molina’s return to the active roster on Friday. The Cardinals are currently in second place in the National League Central Division behind the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Cardinals are the defending National League Champions. The addition of Molina in the lineup on Friday will boost the spirits of his teammates as the Cardinals are making a run to return to the postseason at the conclusion of the 2014 regular season.
