Leh, December 26 (Scoop News)-This year Stanzin Dawa from Ladakh who is currently working with the Commonwealth Secretariat as Program Manager was conferred prestigious Karmaveer Chakra award for his contributions for social development through different initiatives in the field of HIV/AIDS and youth development. He received a medallion along with a certificate of appreciation from Jeroninio Almeida, Founder ICONGO (International Confederation of NGOs) at a glittering ceremony held recently in New Delhi.
Karmaveer Chakra award instituted to recognize real life unsung heroes who believe ‘It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness’ and have walked that extra mile to “Be the change they want to see in this world”. In the past it has been awarded to individuals and businesses that display exemplary citizenship by fighting for social justice.
Today as Program Manager, Stanzin Dawa is responsible for implementing youth development initiatives of the Commonwealth Youth Programme Asia Centre in eight Commonwealth member countries in the Asia region that include Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, India, Malaysia, Maldives, Pakistan, Singapore and Sri Lanka. In this position he is closely working with the government in formulating National Youth Policy, institutional capacity development, creating mechanism for youth participation in policy and development process and developing youth leadership.
It is pertinent to mention here that Stanzin Dawa is the founder and former Director of Rural Development & You, a Leh based nongovernmental organization.
