DARO,SARAWAK,MALAYSIA: Wednesday;
The performance of our Local Authorities [in the State of Sarawak,Malaysia] will be graded starting from next year. The State Minister for Environment and Public Health, Mr Michael Manyin, told the press after this morning’s session of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly. He reiterated that this step is taken inorder to upgrade our system of delivery.
The key performance indicator among others are the people’s perception. The Honourable Minister added,"The other performance indicators are administartion, human resource management, leadership, ability, law enforcement, counter services, ICT and management of web pages."
The State of Sarawak is one of the fourteen states that made up the Federation Of Malaysia. Divided into 72 constituencies, it is represented by the same number of legislators in our state Legislative Assembly.
In line with the effort of the Federal Government, Sarawak is also trying to clear most backlogs in its administration. This is the bane of potential investors.
"Reducing the amount of red tapes is one of our strategies. As this is one of the critical areas that needed our immediate attention, we should find ways to asses the performance of these local Authorities," says the Minister.
"The local Authorities that can contribute the most to our State’s Coffers will be rewarded. Other achievement, such as in the field of public relation will be rewarded too," the Minister added further.
For those Local Authorities that really did not make the grade, they have nothing to fear. Reliable sources told this reporter that simple explanation would be sufficient. Of course there would be counselling and refreshing steps. To maintain their [the employees] self-confidence and trust is of utmost importance, an insider added.
