State of Emergency In Chad

This state of emergency is said to take place for at least 15 days according to Deby in a speech that was broadcast through the state media. This state of emergency also included a curfew on movement of vehicles at night time. It also includes where vehicles are allowed and not allowed to be during the night.

There will be house searches along with controls on the press included in the 15 day state of emergency.

The rebels were driven from the capital. Deby has accused the country of Sudan of supporting the coup attempt. Chad’s government said that these rebels were driven back to the eastern border which enters into the Darfur region of Sudan.

Currently, Chad is being assisted by France. France has given the acknowledgment that its forces were in charge of transporting weapons. On a side note, the extradition of 6 aid workers from the French based charity Zoe’s Ark from Chad to France to serve out their jail terms was also brokered.

The six aid workers claim that they were led to believe they were evacuating orphans from Sudan. But, it was revealed that most were actually from Chad with parents that were still alive.

Also, Chad was once occupied by France. Both have acted accordingly to a co-operation agreement between the two nations.

So far Deby has accused Sudan of taking part of the coup. But, Sudan has denied those accusations. Within the month, a European Union peacekeeping force is due to be deployed to Chad.
