Jammu, February 9 (Scoop News) – Coming out strongly in favour of the presence of military and para-military forces in the militancy affected state of Jammu & Kashmir, the BJP National Executive Member & State Chief Spokesperson Dr. Jitendra Singh has stated that the elimination of three Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in the Banihal encounter on Tuesday, for which the state police is claiming credit, was infact, possible only because of a joint operation carried out with the assistance of 23 Rashtriya Rifles. This is an ample evidence to prove that anti-militancy operations in the state were still far beyond the potential preparedness of the state Police alone, he added.
Dr. Singh advised the administration to be highly guarded and restrained in passing hurried judgments on the performance of the Army and referred to the statement made by the General Officer Command (GOC) of Army’s Srinagar-based 15 corps, Lieutenant General S.A. Hasnain, where in he had denied the allegation of custodial killing of Handwara youth and said that the slain youth and his associate were asked to stop by the ambush party but they paid no heed to the warning.
Dr. Singh appealed to the Kashmir-centric political parties not to get in the trap of mutual unman ship among themselves and resort to Army bashing simply to score political points. This can have a serious demoralizing effect on the military and para-military forces, he warned.
Cautioning that any decision for troops withdrawal should not be consciously or sub-sconsciously inspired by political movitation, Dr. Singh said that a better Confidence Building Measure (CBM) instead would be to lower the level of personal security enjoyed by Chief Minsiter and Ministers.
