The ‘ICT Incubator’ project ends on October 31 this year, the Ministry of Science and ICT (MOSICT) is yet to decide on an extension of the project and continuation of the subsidies which were provided to the companies within the Incubator.
Around 45 information and communication technology (ICT) companies, employing over 1,700 people, at the ICT incubator in the BSRS Bhaban are facing an uncertain future. Some small and medium sized companies that initiated operations during the last three years will suffer a devastating loss.
The project, under the supervision of the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) which is under the MOSICT, was allocated a fund of Tk 3.60 crore for a five-year period since its initiation in 2002 at the BSRS Bhaban in Karwan Bazar. A space of 68,583 square feet was allocated on seven floors with a view to promote and generate awareness of ICT and also encourage such companies.
