Watching a movie and reading a book are very personal experiences; they both are experiences which should enrich our understanding of the subject undertaken. Good books and good movies in today’s world are rare to find and still rarer to appreciate. Steel Toes is one of them
Steel Toes based on a play by David Gow tilted “cherry Docs”. Co-directed by Mark Adam, It is a story based in multi cultural Montréal of Danny Dunkleman, a liberal humanist Jew lawyer and multi racist Montreal of mike Downey the neo Nazi skinhead. Mike in a fit of rage accelerated by his inebriated condition beats an Indian immigrant leading to his death one night. Danny is assigned his case, which binds them exploring their emotional and intellectual differences, intensifying as the movie comes to the end.
It is a movie about racial and religious intolerance, compassion and remorse, guilt and forgiveness. It is a timely move which very one should watch. It is and extraordinary story of human emotions. It is a must watch for everyone who is interested in the multicultural world which we live in today.
The performances are excellent, it has a feel of a theatre not being characterised by the visual exuberance most movies display. David Strathairn as Danny Dunkleman and Andrew walker as mike Downey are unforgettable characters. One bound by duty the other by hate.
Go ahead watch it.
