November 4, 2008 was a historical victory for African-Americans and Democrats. Barack Obama won the United States Presidency. At the same time, Democrats scored a major victory as well. Election Day and Inauguration Day have already long passed. Today should be a historical victory for African-Americans and Republicans.
Today, Michael Steele became the first African-American chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC). He will be tasked with healing the GOP from all the defeats suffered recently. Steele is the Former Lieutenant Governor of Maryland. In the RNC elections, Steele breezed through and defeated all of his opponents.
Steele said that this was awesome. This should be interesting as he is considered one of the most moderate members of the GOP. At the same time, he is not a committee member.
Upon being the new RNC chairman, Steele will have to face many challenges.
“We’re going to say to friend and foe alike: We want you to be a part of us, we want you to be with us, and for those who wish to obstruct, get ready to get knocked over,” Steele said in his speech.
One question should be asked: How will Rush Limbaugh take a person considered to be real moderate as the new head of the RNC?
