Ever since “Pud” Gavlin of the St. Louis Brownstockings — A hall of fame baseball player –consumed the Brown Sequard Elixer in the late 1800’s, American baseball has had the benefit of performance enhancing drugs. Gavlin was enhancing his performance level with the elixer containing a monkey’s testosterone in it. The practice was legal in the 19th Century, and no one is calling for him to be removed from the Baseball Hall of Fame.
It is true that currently steroids are not permitted. However that’s just the circumstances of what the policy in athletics is now. The question that should be asked is “Should they be legal?”
Of course they should. Unless you’re going to strip parents of their kids if traces of viagra are in the bedroom.
Fans don’t care either, they pay for tickets knowing half the league takes PED. No one really cares. They just pander for political correctness while enjoying home runs.
If it makes anyone feel better, perhaps if steroids are such an advantage, we can bring back the spitball to equalize things.
