For the second time in a year, Denmark is hit by storms (called Dagmar and Egon this time) and floods. People have to flee their houses and can only move back in after half a year because the water causes so much damage.
Anybody who looks at the world map, can see how vulnerable Denmark is where it comes to floods. Yet no political attention for the fact that the problem won’t go away by itself, no plans and hardly any coverage in the media….You wouldn’t believe it, but it actually said in the media ‘Vi har styr på Egon’. Translation: ‘We have Egon under control’…..
Sure, in other countries people would die from floods while in Denmark there is at least a good warning system so people can be evacuated in time. But that’s not a solution to the problem and it should not be called ‘control’. Every report about climate change warns, this is only the beginning and it will only get worse. So it is time to define which areas are most vulnerable; to make a program that helps people who own houses there, to move from those places. To build better protection, dykes and pumps, where this would make sense.
Don’t we pay taxes to help each other? How I would like to see that money used for preventing troubles instead of for making troubles by using it for bureaucratic and physical wars!
