Back in April, it was announced by Ed Boon, one of the creators of the popular and insanely violent “Mortal Kombat” franchise, that there will be a new Mortal Kombat game. It would be the first-ever Mortal Kombat crossover game.
This fighting game would be a crossover with Mortal Kombat and the DC Comics Universe. From the earliest trailer, there was a fight scene between Sub-Zero and Batman.
So far, it is known that the ESRB rating will be T for “Teen.” It was explained that a lot of the violence would be toned down as a result.
Despite skepticism, the game does look promising. A live demonstration was available at the 2008 Penny Arcade Expo in Washington several weeks ago. In preparation for its release on November 16, a new trailer has been released.
This trailer is the introduction to the game’s storyline. It starts out in which the Mortal Kombat Universe and the DC Comics Universe are colliding with each other. As a result, both worlds are at risk of being destroyed altogether.
On the Mortal Kombat side, the playable characters are:
Baraka, Jax, Kano, Kitana, Liu Kang, Raiden, Scorpion, Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn, Sonya Blade, and Sub-Zero.
On the DC Comics side, the playable characters are:
Batman, Captain Marvel, Catwoman, Darkseid, Deathstroke or “Slade,” Flash, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), The Joker, Lex Luthor, Superman, and Wonder Woman.
New features in the game are present such as a “Klose Kombat” mode and a “Free-Fall” mode.
For finishing moves, there are the notable Fatalities and the new “Heroic Brutalities.” From the gameplay, the Fatalities have been watered down and seem to be void of the blood and guts flying around.
The blood and guts were one of the core things of the MK franchise.
The release is but a few days away. While the game looks promising, will Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe deliver?
