Stranded civilians airlifted from Sonamarg

Srinagar, February 26 (Scoop News) –On the instructions of Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, eleven people were airlifted from Sonamarg to Gund in Air Force Cheetah Helicopter by Wing Commander Vikram Singh and Flight Lt Desai.

Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Aamir Ali in the office of Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, said that the stranded people included 7 casual employees of SDA, one potter and three locals from Nilgrat. The civilians had got stranded at Sonamarg, due to avalanche. They had been camping with army unit at Sonamarg. The stranded people airlifted were identified as Ajaz Ahmed Gojar of Khanan Kangan, Ajaz Ahmed Sheikh of Sonamarg, Nisar Ahmed Raina of Ganiwan , Gayasdin Sheikh of Sonamarg, Ishfaq Ahmed Sheikh of of Sonamarg, Mehrajudin Dar of Cherwan, Fayaz Ahmed Sheikh of Sonamarg, Mohd Ali of Nilgrath, Mohd Ali son of Abdullah of Nilgrath , Mohd Hussain of Nilgrath, Habibullah Mir of Hayan. The airlifted people were received at Gund and
handed over to their family members in presence of Tehsildar Kangan, SDPO Kangan, SHO Gund , Officers of 24 RR, CO CRPF 118 bn and Executive Engineer SDA .

He said that strict instructions have been issued by Divisional Commissioner not to allow any civilian to move ahead of Gagangir towards Sonamarg, in view of avalache threat.

Meanwhile IL-76 special air force flight has been arranged by State Government from Srinagar to Leh for stranded passengers of Kargil at Srinagar. In addition to this, subject to fair weather, AN-32 Kargil courier flight will also operate between Kargil and Srinagar. Passengers who have already purchased tickets of Kargil courier have been advised to report to Kargil House, Bemina Srinagar at 8am on 27th February 2012.
