I first heard this song from the broadway musical the Man of La Mancha in 1972 when it first hit the broadway stage.
As a music lover and as a Christian who loves and serves God with music, this song grabbed hold of me immediately as it expressed and illustrated and demonstrated in a very strong way, how I, how we, as Christians must proceed in our daily lives, as we strive to be like Jesus and struggle along our path leading us toward heaven and toward our Father God.
This is and must be our ultimate objective if we are to truly call ourself a Christian and be recognized by God truly as a brother to Christ Jesus.
As Christians we are asked by Jesus to be like Jesus in our everyday lives, and as mere humans, this is an impossible command to fulfill for we are not God or Jesus the “Son of God” nor do we have the will-power to be like God or Jesus, yet we are asked to be so just the same.
If you really stop and think about it, as a human we can “Will” nothing. God willed into creation all that was created or ever will be created. God merely willed it or thought it into being, but we as mortals have no such power. The best we can do is to choose something, choose a path to follow, to do, or, not to do that which befalls us in our lives.
THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM
To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go
To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star
This is my quest
To follow that star
No matter how hopeless
No matter how far
To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hell
For a heavenly cause
And I know if I’ll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I’m laid to my rest
And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star
The impossible dream is possible when we rely upon God to make it so. Trusting In God, putting our Faith in God, even when we see things as impossible through our human limitations, demonstrates a true belief that God is real and that our God is so awesome that he can accomplish anything asked of him.
