Student drop-outs in the City of Pines increased

Baguio City – Many parents are worried that their children are not going to finish their study this coming March, the end of school year of 2007-2008. The high incidence of drop-out among students was blamed on various factors that directly affected their school activities.

Generally, students from grades school, secondary and tertiary levels are totally distracted by their daring attitude to skip classes and be with their friends to gallivant and do something unnecessary like hanging-out in malls, parks, video arcades, computer shops and having some drinking and drug sessions that leads them to moral impropriety.

Latest figure shows that more elementary students devote more time playing computer and video games using their school allowances. The level of drop-out in high school is more than the same with the college level. These two groups of students have the same pattern of attitude and orientation.

This group of young men and women are more aggressive, daring and always defy parental guidance because of their “devil-may-care” attitude. Usually, these youngsters skip classes not only to spend their time in hanging-out or playing computer and video games, but they are into extra activities that completely lead them to drop-out of school.

The unrestricted and increasing numbers of computer shops, video arcades and honky-tonk joints in the city have caused more problems to the hardworking parents whose only wish is for their children to finish their education.
